MARTIN BONNICI

Martin Bonnici is an Australian-Maltese who has been a professional photographer and photojournalist since 1992; formally trained at the Melbourne School of Art and Photography in Australia.

His specialties include travel, interior and exterior architectural, aerial shots from planes and helicopters, portraits, sport and general event and photojournalism.

Martin developed this style of photography tuition as an easy going and practical way of learning photography in Melbourne, Australia in 2006. The company Photography Made Easy was voted 16th in the Must Do’s of tourism experiences in the state of Victoria. “The ethos is to have fun and learn how to shoot in the field and on the streets. Taking people to the best locations and imparting my easy methods so wherever they go after one of my tours, they can photograph it properly and record their stories and journeys through life”.

When Martin moved to Malta, he decided to concentrate back on his professional photographic career; he still offered his brand of photography workshops and photo walks but not very often as he focused on the photographic tuition and not on guiding. In the Maltese Islands, tourism guiding is regulated. Martin decided to study Tourist Guiding at the Institute of Tourism Studies (the ITS) here in Malta to gain his license as a tourist guide with the aim of properly offering his brand of photography tours again.

Whilst studying, Martin did his thesis on a Sense of Place Photography Tour. He identified the need for something very easy going for tourists that do not want to carry heavy cameras around. Something that would get tourists to the good locations whilst blending historical information and learning how to shoot in these amazing settings.

In his studies, he became friends with fellow students, one being Ms Denise Cassar who is equally as passionate about tourism. Denise had approached Martin about working on these mobile phone tours together.

Martin said “this was really a no brainer and a very easy decision to make. Denise brings amazing skills and a freshness to these mobile phone tours. Knowing how to guide is not enough, but taking photos is not enough either. One must have a passion for guiding people and a combination of skills that include the love of photography and teaching people how to shoot, in this case with a mobile phone. Other than her professionalism, she is also very easy going. I gladly welcome Denise knowing she will be a fantastic addition to the evolution of these photography tours”.
